Public Education

Public education is vital in creating greater water safety awareness, knowledge and skills. Public education is one of the leading methods by which ILS aims to reduce the incidence of injury and death in water environments.

The ILS Development Committee has been working on an education “tool box” for people within ILS who are doing lifesaving and water safety development work across the world.

One of the main components of this “tool box” and identified as high priority is the availability of basic water safety educational materials.

In a partnership between the ILS Development and Education Committees, and with valuable assistance from the United States Lifesaving Association, the ILS has developed the following four public education materials: (sample material)

ILS member organizations are free to request the artwork, re-print the original artwork without modification, and distribute as widely as possible.

In addition, the ILS has available some basic water safety tips which can be found at http://www.ilsf.org/rescue/safety_tips.htm.
