Life Saving Society - Mauritius

The Royal Life Saving Society of Mauritius originated in the year 1954 first within the Mauritius Police Force and later amongst the public. The society is mainly involved in the promotion of swimming and life saving activities. Most of the lifesaving at the coast side during the festive seasons is done on a voluntary basis. However, the National Coast Guards who are qualified lifesavers perform daily lifeguard duties all around the island.
The society joined FIS in the year 1976 and is a member of the Mauritius Council of Social Service (MACOSS) which is a non governmental organisation.
