The Royal Life Saving Society of Nigeria was established on 24th June, 1991. The organisation is not limited to water activities only. The Society is concerned with general safety, lifesaving, emergency medical services, sports development, water safety and lifesaving education.
The Royal Life Saving Society of Nigeria has designed special programmes for the promotion of Lifesaving Education in the country. These programmes are:
* Water Safety Education for all water activities.
* Sports Life Saving Education for sports men and women.
* Industrial Life Saving Education for industrial workers.
* Food Safety and Hygiene for food handlers.
* Armed Forces Lifesaving Education for military and police officers and men.
* International Youths Lifesaving Education for the Youths.
The Society has therefore established an International Lifesaving Training Centre (ILTC) which offers all the Certificate/Diploma Courses approved by the International Life Saving Federation to students. Meanwhile, the Training Centre courses are divided into four levels, from Basic over Standard and Advanced to Diploma.
The Federation has divided the country into three zones to promote water safety education through its affiliated institutions. The Federation is calling for sponsors from both national and international Community to enable it carry out its functions effectively. Their mottos are "Safety and Rescue" and "For the International promotion of Health, Safety, Sports and Rescue Services".
