Rip Current Article Reply

The online scientific journal Natural Hazards and Earth System Sciences has published a peer reviewed reply to an article on rip currents authored by USLA Statistics Coordinator Rick Gould and B. Chris Brewster (President of the USLA).

The article is in reply to an earlier article the journal had published on rip currents which Gould and Brewster say misinterpreted and thus misreported statistics on rip currents. As they note, rip currents are the cause of over 80% of rescues at surf beaches in the US and in some areas over 90%.
