International Life Saving Federation

The Andorra Federation of Swimming (FAN) was founded in 1985, but swimming was practiced in Andorra for many years as a school sport.

The FAN is a member of FINA, LEN, COMEN and COLAN.

With regards to competitions, and thanks to the good relation with the Catalan and Spanish Federations, the FAN's sportsmen and sportswomen participate in Catalan and Spanish Championships and won many medals in these competitions.

The Federation participates in international competitions such as the World Championships, European Championships, Mediterranean Games and the Latin Cup.

In 2003 the Federation organised the European Synchronized and Swimming Championships with a participation of about 300 swimmers from 22 countries. This event obviously was a success in the little country since after the event over one hundred very young swimmers joined the Federation.

In 2004, FAN organised the Catalonian Junior Swimming Championship in Andorra, that important event was a good test event for FAN because Andorra organised the Games of the Small States of Europe in 2005.

The FAN became Corresponding Member of ILS on 13 September 2004.
