History
The Republic of Korea National Red Cross was founded in Seoul in 1905, when Emperor Kojong promulgated a Royal decree to proclaim the formation of the Korean Red Cross.
The Society was recognised by the International Red Cross Society in 1955 and became corresponding member of the International Life Saving Federation on Saturday 11 November, 1995.
Safety services of the Society have contributed to the protection of health and life as well as the dissemination of health-related skills and knowledge to the public since 1949.
Its major services are:
- First aid services since 1949.
- Water Safety since 1953.
- Cardio-Pulmonary-Resuscitation (CPR) since 1975.
The Society has over 6.5 million members grouped in 2.183 groups.
