Top-level competition at 15th International German Cup

From 20 until 22 November the German Lifesaving Federation (DLRG) succesfully organised the 15th International German Cup in Warendorf, Germany.

From 20 until 22 November the German Lifesaving Federation (DLRG) succesfully organised the 15th International German Cup in Warendorf, Germany.

National teams from 15 countries (Australia, Belgium, Bulgaria, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland, Slovak Republic, Spain, South Africa, Czech Republic) and 16 German teams participated in this high-level competition.

With 8 new world records (which have to be recognised by the ILS Sports Commission) the level of competition was outstanding.

German competitor Lutz Heimann was the most impressive competitor of the event. He won the 200 m Superlifesaver and the 100 m Manikin tow with fins and tube, setting two new world record times, as well as the 200 m Obstable swim and the 100 m Rescue Medley. Lutz was the overall male champion of the event, followed by Stephen Short from Australia and Bario van Niekerk from South-Africa.

In the women’s overall classification Elena Prelle from Italy won the gold medal, followed by Jenny Parry from Australia. Prelle set a new world record time on the 50 m saving a manikin while Parry won the 200 m Superlifesaver in a new world records time. Erna Wedemeyer from South-Africa took the third place. An eye-catcher was also the Dutch women’s team who broke two world records in the lifesaving relay and rescue medley relay and won the overall women’s classification.

During the closing ceremony, DLRG vice-President, Dr. Detlev Mohr and the Mayor of Warendorf Hans-Dieter Feldges presented the awards to the winners. The German National Team won the overall classification followed by Australia and South-Africa.
