The Royal Life Saving Society Australia ” Victoria (RLSSA-V) plays a major role in the redution of death, injury and suffering in the community through a broad range of water safety education programmes. Without these programmes, children and parents would be at a greater at risk in, on and around aquatic environments. Here are some of the programmes:

The RLSSA Infant Aquatics programme was launched at the Aquacon conference in December 2002. The programme has been well received throughout the industry and major Swim and Survive clients have welcomed the inclusion of a National Infant Aquatics programme to their existing education programmes.

The RLSSA-V Swim and Survive learn to swim and water safety education programme continued to strengthen in 2003 with over 128.000 programme reward sold.

RLSSA-V water safety ambassadors visited regional Victoria in March 2003 to present an interactive stage show aimed at educating primary school students about water safety. The 45 mins show presented basic information about safety in all water environments and involved the participants singing, dancing and answering questions about dangers in aquatic environments.

The fifth consecutive year of the Open Water Learning Experience Education Programme, as part of the Victoria Government’s “Play it Safe by the Water” campaign saw more than 6.700 upper primary and lower secondary school aged students throughout Victoria participate in a range of fun activities in open
water environments such as rivers, lakes, beaches and dams.

These can be complete with the RLSSA junior Lifeguard Club programme through swimming pool, the Victoria Youth Development Programme with its carnivals and the Water Safety Resource Kit who continued to be promoted by RLSSA-V staff.
