The event was well organised with support from the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Beach Authority. It was reported that the presentation and speeches, in Creole, French and English were covered by MBC television. The British High Commissioner HE David Snoxell, in his speech remarked that he hoped the RLSS swim would become a major annual sporting fixture in Mauritius with an emphasis on safety, lifesaving and controlled swimming rather than on competition and speed.

As in previous years, The High Commissioner took part in the swim once again and completed the course in a respectable 1 hour 32 minutes coming 55th.
