World Water Safety 2007 Conference

ILS has announced the ILS World Water Safety 2007 Conference and Exhibition is to be held on the 27th, 28th and 29th September 2007, in Matosinhos and Porto, Portugal. Preliminary notice has been provided on the ILS web site, and we now present the 1srt formal announcement to all interested persons.

The purpose of the World Water Safety 2007 Conference (WWS 2007) is to bring together the worldâ„¢s foremost experts, systems and information for exchange, debate and further development that will lead to reduction of death and injury in all aquatic environments worldwide.

The purpose of the World Water Safety 2007 Conference (WWS 2007) is to bring together the world’s foremost experts, systems and information for exchange, debate and further development that will lead to reduction of death and injury in all aquatic environments worldwide.

The hosts of WWS 2007 are the Instituto de Socorros a Náufragos (ISN) and the Associação de Nadadores Salvadores (ASNASA Portugal) both ILS’ members.

The WWS 2007 will have two major events associated and simultaneous, one is the Conference and the other is the International Water Safety Exhibition of lifesaving products, services and information.

The WWS Conference 2007 objectives are:

  • To gather the worlds drowning experts in research, education and action to find the best new approaches, techniques and quality technologies to reduce the global drowning burden.
  • To explore the evidence in child and adolescent drowning prevention.
  • To expand global participation in aquatic lifesaving, including among youth.

Research in lifesaving – developing the plan

  • Does water safety education save lives?
  • Does teaching swimming save lives?
  • Does lifeguarding save lives?
  • Fitness standards for lifeguards
  • Evaluation of the World Congress on Drowning 2002 and the Handbook on Drowning 2005
  • Other priority questions on a long list that is currently being prioritised

Expanding youth involvement in lifesaving

  • Encouraging the participation of young people in water safety and lifesaving
  • How should young people become involved in decision making?

New and emerging lifesaving organisations

  • Getting started; organisation, people, activity and results for sustainability Workshops for the new organizations leading to growth and development.
  • Orientation for new member federations

World Drowning Report ” measuring and estimating the burden

The WWS 2007 Conference aims to involve a wide range of persons interested in the cause of Saving Lives Worldwide: Prevention, Rescue and Treatment, from professional groups to volunteers which are engaged in lifesaving and drowning prevention projects.
