Lifesaving into Masters Games

Surf Lifesaving is introduced as the 27th sport for the Sydney 2009 World Masters Games. The Surf Lifesaving competition at the Games will be held over two days with events open to men and women over the age of 30.

Surf Life Saving Australia’s General Manager of Surf Sports, Grant Baldock, believes the inclusion of Surf Lifesaving at the Sydney 2009 World Masters Games is a boost for both parties providing profile to Masters Surf Lifesaving and another world class competition for athletes.

“The Sydney 2009 World Masters Games will kick off a huge summer of Masters Surf Lifesaving for 2009/10 and I have no doubt athletes from around Australia and beyond will embrace this once in a lifetime opportunity,” Baldock said.

Based on competitor numbers for the annual Australian Masters Championships, expected competitor numbers at the Sydney 2009 World Masters Games are 2,000.
