With the 2017 ILS World Conference on Drowning Prevention (WCDP) one year away, delegates can now register online at wcdp2017.org. This conference is a flagship educational event on the calendar of the International Life Saving Federation (ILS). It is a bi-annual opportunity to bring together the world’s foremost experts, research, systems and information on drowning prevention, rescue, lifesaving and water safety.
WCDP 2017 in Vancouver, Canada also provides an opportunity to report on progress in answering to the ten actions to prevent drowning as outlined in the 2014 World Health Organization’s Global Report on Drowning.
In addition, ILS is now requesting abstracts from prospective presenters in one of the seven theme areas. WCDP 2017 conference themes reflect the challenges of reducing the burden of drowning in the communities, nations and regions of the world.
The themes are:
- Prevention
- Data
- Rescue
- Disaster and Impacts of Climate Changes
- Medical
- Swimming and Water Safety Education
- Partnerships
Conference organizers encourage consideration of cross-cutting issues within these themes that reflect current understanding of at least two of research, policy and/or practice. Papers that address or extend the recommendations of the WHO Global Report on Drowning are encouraged across all themes.
Abstracts can be submitted at wcdp2017.org. Deadline for abstract submissions is Friday, December 16, 2016.
