ILS Announces the Selection of the Lifesaving Athletes for TWG 2022

After a qualifying programme that lasted almost 12 months, over 41 planned events, and with more than 1,000 qualifying times posted, the ILS has now finally been able to complete the selection process to choose the 100 Athletes that will represent Lifesaving at The World Games 2022 in Birmingham, Alabama, USA in July 2022.

A full list of the successful 100 athletes selected can be found at:

Lifesaving Athletes selected to participate at The World Games 2022

A total of 80 athletes from the following 8 nations have qualified in both a men’s and a women’s team for the three team relay events:

  • Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Poland and Spain

Additionally 20 more athletes have been selected to participate in the five individual events and join those who have already qualified through their team position.

The aim of this qualification process is to get the best racing against the best with the 8 best times achieved in qualifying in each race.  Unlike in previous World Games, the 2022 events will be direct final shoot-outs between the fastest 8 teams and individuals in 8 events for each gender. There is a limit of 2 competitors per nation in all individual events, but those selected represent the fastest athletes that could be selected.

The ILS congratulates all who have been selected and thanks all who participated during the qualifying sessions for their commitment.  Unfortunately, because of the impacts of Covid-19 in 2021, some nations were unable to host any qualifying events for their athletes and we acknowledge their frustration at not being able to achieve any qualifying times through the year. The Lifesaving events at TWG2022 will take place on 10th and 11th July 2022 at the Birmingham Crossplex Natatorium.
