After four action-packed days in the ocean and on the sand, the 2026 Aon New Zealand Surf Lifesaving Championships in Ōhope have wrapped.
Nearly 1,400 competitors from across Aotearoa battled it out in 25 events, with more than 130 national champions crowned. The country’s top surf lifesavers put their clubs on the map and showed the strength and spirit of lifesaving sport.

Omanu SLSC took out the overall club title, with East End and Mairangi Bay completing the podium. From surf boats and canoes to irons, flags, relays, and board rescues, every athlete, volunteer, official, and supporter helped make the event one to remember.
“Huge congratulations to all our medalists – what an achievement,” said Luke Smith, SLSNZ National Event Manager. “From clubs with one competitor to clubs with 40+, our community has shown skill, commitment, and heart. The future of surf lifesaving in New Zealand is bright.”
“We are so proud of the incredible community who have made this event special,” adds Zac Franich SLSNZ GM Sport. “Ōhope has been a spectacular venue, and this championship proves the strength of our surf lifesaving whanau.
