A new global water‑safety education tool is now available to the public. The launch of the International Swim & Save Program “Leucothea” app coincided with World Drowning Prevention Day and marks a major step toward making lifesaving knowledge accessible to everyone, everywhere.
Developed through a collaboration between the Greek Lifesaving Sports Association and a team of students from Furtwangen University in Germany, the Leucothea app delivers 18 online learning modules covering swimming skills, water safety, rescue techniques, first aid, fair play, and lifesaving sport. Users can study at their own pace and earn certificates that encourage further practical training.
The program has earned endorsements from leading international bodies, including the International Life Saving Federation, International Federation of Swimming Teachers’ Association, International Swimming Hall of Fame, and Mediterranean Lifesaving Confederation. Leaders across these organizations praised Leucothea as an innovative, accessible, and cost‑free tool that can help reduce drowning, one of the world’s most persistent public‑health challenges.
