The Portuguese Lifesaving Federation (FEPONS) has announced the International Congress on Lifesaving Sport (IcLS 2026), which will take place online on Sunday 8 November 2026.

The Congress aims to bring together the European lifesaving sport community to share knowledge, experiences and best practices, contributing to the development and international growth of the sport.

An exciting programme is currently being prepared, featuring elite international athletes, world-class coaches, leading technical experts, experienced officials and international sports leaders, including Prof. António Silva, President of European Aquatics.

The Congress will address a wide range of topics relevant to the future of lifesaving sport, including high-performance training, technical development, athlete pathways, international competitions, officiating, Olympic ambitions, drowning prevention, and the importance of livestreaming in promoting and developing the sport.

The event is organised by FEPONS, with the scientific and technical support of the School of Sport of Rio Maior, Polytechnic University of Santarém (Portugal), and the support of the International Life Saving Federation of Europe (ILSE).

The Congress represents a valuable opportunity for the European lifesaving sport community to learn from international experience, exchange ideas and strengthen cooperation between federations.

The Congress will be conducted in English and delivered in a fully online format, allowing participants from around the world to attend without the need for travel.

The initiative will also support the participation of the Portuguese National Lifesaving Sport Team in the Lifesaving World Championships 2026 in South Africa. In addition, €10 from each registration will be donated to ILSE.
