Veronique Colman passed away

With sadness we have to announce that Prof. Veronique Colman passed away on Saturday 16 June 2006.

Veronique was professor at the University of Leuven, Belgium and a great promoter of lifesaving at university level. She also guided the University Lifesaving Club.

Veronique witnessed the creation of ILS in Leuven in 1993 and was also present in Cardiff in 1994 where she filmed the ILS fusion ceremony.

She was elected the first secretary of the ILS Education Commission and fulfilled that function from 1994 to 2000. In that capacity, she was instrumental in the set up of the lifesaving and lifeguarding certification systems of ILS.

Veronique was a specialist in the movement analysis of swimmers and lifesavers and worked with Prof. Dr. Ulrik Persyn and with me in the Research Unit of Swimming of the Leuven University.

We have lost a fine colleague, a remarkable person and a very dedicated woman who has put her work and lifesaving as a top priority of her too short life.
