What is the UAE National Lifesaving Championships?

Now in its 4th successful year this is the national competition designed as a competitive training initiative for lifeguards from across the country. Not only will it be the ultimate challenge for lifeguard teams but it will also be a positive way to increase water & beach safety though out the United Arab Emirates.

Since the first competition in Fujairah in 2006 the championship has seen almost 300 lifesavers compete in 17 events for thousands of dirhams worth of prizes. Knowledge and skills will be tested in the areas of leadership, emergency procedures, first aid, team work and intense physical fitness.

This years event is promised to be bigger and better than ever before, with one Team being crowned as the UAE’s ultimate lifesaving team.

The Events

Event 1 – 400 meter swim
A timed ocean swim whereby all team members swim around a series of marker buoys and back to the beach. (Teams of 4 lifeguards & individual competitors)

Event 2 ” 120m casualty rescue
A timed team event whereby lifeguard teams swim, tow and rescue a simulated casualty in the ocean. Once on the beach demonstration CPR should be performed (Teams of 4 lifeguards)

Event 3 ” Beach Flags
An individual and team event of speed and agility over sand requiring the lifeguards to test themselves to the limit. (Teams of 4 lifeguards & individual competitors)
