Togo Lifesaving Federation
The Fédération Togolaise de Sauvetage (FTS) is a sports and humanitarian not for profit Federation. It fights against drowning through the promotion of safe swimming, water rescue and first aid in Togo. It gives outreach in schools and around beaches and lakes, and swimming and rescue lessons to youngsters.
Our organisation was formed on 15 March 2011 and is recognised by the Government legislation N°0861/MATDCL-SG-DLPAP-DOCA on 24 August 2011. During the General Assembly in May 2012, the federation decided to change the name in order to broaden the fields of activities. The initial name ‘Club de Natation et de Sauvetage de Lomé’ became ‘Association Togolaise de Sauvetage et de Secourisme ATSS’ on 25 October 2012. In 2023 our name changed to “Fédération Togolaise de Natation et de Sauvetage (FETONAS)”.
Following a demand from the National Olympic Committee of Togo supported by the ILS, the Ministry of Sports and Leisure, by letter N°834/MSL/CAB/24 dated 29 August 2024, authorised the split of lifesaving from swimming to enable the development of both disciplines by different federations. So the new name is Fédération Togolaise de Sauvetage (FTS).
