About

Every two years the ILS organises the LIFESAVING WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS, showcasing excellence in lifesaving sports and rescue; attracting the most talented and skilled lifesaving athletes to compete for the title of World’s best.

The 2022 edition takes place with a reduced programme following the decision announced on 3rd November 2021 to cancel all of the Interclub, IRB and Surfboat events due to the Covid-19 restrictions. Only the National Teams Open and Youth and Masters Championships can be held.

These championships were originally due to take place in Riccione in September/October 2020, but were postponed in March 2020 due to the global disruption caused by the Coronavirus Covid-19 Pandemic*.

Note: Because of the need to postpone LWC 2020 for two years, the Moroccan Federation graciously agreed to move the LWC 2022 event awarded to Agadir, Morocco to 2026.
