Brazilian Drowning Survey

The Brazilian Lifesaving organization Sobrasa has just finished its drowning survey. The results of this study are interesting.

Although they are starting to tabulate the scientific statistics in order to publish a paper on the profile of lifesaving in Brazil, they already have a pretty good idea about the trend in drowning.

From 1995 on, when Sobrasa started lifesaving activities on an international level ,the national death rates by drowning were reduced by 30%. In 1995 the rate was 4,9 death/100.000 habitants and it reached 3,8 in 2003. Just a reminder that the population is 180 million people and the beaches are packed all year around. Almost 1.000 lives are saved in Brazil each year thanks to their hard work.

From 8-11 December 2005 Sobrasa will organize their 5th National Brazilian Symposium and Championship and the 2th Sulamerican Championship in Tramandaí.
