This year’s European Junior Lifesaving Championships were run by the Italian Federation (FINS) near the city of Rome.

The whole competition was well organised by the Italian Federation under the lead of Sen. Paolo Barelli. Beside the ILSE Referees Bob Dekkers (Netherlands), Frans Kenis (Belgium), Elu Sanguino Oliva (Spain) and Jerry Polesel (Italy) nearly 30 referees from Italy and a whole set of volunteers spent their time in performing a perfect competition in the pool and at the beach.

The pool was well suited and the set up was first-class. The competition started with the obstacle swim and ended at the first day with the Line Throw competition.

The beach preparation was perfect ” only the weather was a bit disappointing: after a heavy thunderstorm during the first day’s afternoon, the sea became rough during the second day so that some competitions were cancelled by the chief referees due to safety reasons.

This year’s winner is the team from Italy, followed by Spain and Germany. ILSE was represented by the Secretary General, Dr. Dirk Bissinger (Germany). The Lifesaving family spent a nice time in Italy and is looking forward to the next European Junior Lifesaving Championships in 2007.
