Centre for Injury Prevention and Research, Bangladesh

The Centre for Injury Prevention and Research, Bangladesh (CIPRB) was founded in February 2005, with the vision of a safe and injury-free community in low-income and developing nations. Our goal is to reduce injury morbidity, mortality and disability.

Each year 30,000 Bangladeshi children die, 13,000 children are permanently disabled. Drowning is by far the greatest danger to children in Bangladesh and is claiming 17,000 lives per year.

Families grieve and their community mourns the loss. However the vast majority of these deaths and injuries are entirely preventable. CIPRB programmes help prevent the number of fatalities and injuries caused through drowning, burns, road traffic accidents, serious cuts, falls, poisoning and animal inflicted injuries.

CIPRB’s largest intervention programme is PRECISE – Prevention of Child Injuries through Social- intervention and Education. Based in three rural areas and one urban area, PRECISE is a large-scale community-based intervention programme designed to educate communities on how to prevent injuries.

By providing relevant information, methods and technologies to policy makers, institutions, the general public, and individuals CIPRB believes communities can make changes in accident and injury patterns. The guiding principles are conducting quality research, designing, implementing and evaluating interventions, disseminating information, and developing human resources.

The Centre for Injury Prevention and Research, Bangladesh (CIPRB) became Full Member of ILS on 27 September 2009.
