Qatar initially became member of ILS through the Qatar Marine Sports Federation. The Qatar Marine Sports Federation was accepted as an Associate Member of ILS at the 2003 ILS Board of Directors Meeting in St. Lucia.

The responsibilities of Lifesaving were taken over by the Qatar Swimming Association in 2004 and at the ILS Board Meeting held in Egypt in February 2004 the Association was accepted as a Full Member.
