33 new Australian records

150 competitors participated in the 4-day competition at the Australian Pool Lifesaving Championships held in Sydney. No less than 33 national records were broken.

The Australian Pool Lifesaving Championships are an annual event conducted by the Royal Life Saving Society – Australia.

At this Championship the competitors had the opportunity to display their skills as they vie for a place on the national team.

At this Championship the competitors had the opportunity to display their skills as they vie for a place on the national team.

The top 10 competitors were rewarded with a place in the Aussie Barra’s’ team, a five male, five female member team who will represent Australia at Commonwealth Lifesaving Championships, held every two years.

State pride was also at stake. A close contest throughout the four days of competition, the New South Wales, Queensland and Western Australia teams were consistently at each others heals in the point score, with New South Wales being declared the overall winner with the highest point score.
