Canada secures 2009 Commonwealth Champs

The Lifesaving Society, Canada’s lifeguarding experts, is proud to announce that the 2009 Commonwealth Lifesaving Championships has been awarded to Canada and will be hosted in beautiful Edmonton, Alberta.

“The awarding of this International competition to Canada is precedent setting, states Barbara Kusyanto, Chief Administrative Officer of the Society’s Alberta/NWT Branch and host of the event. “Having an opportunity to host a lifesaving competition of an international caliber will help further the development of lifesaving sport all across Canada and allow competitors, officials and spectators to benefit from of international exposure at a local level.

The Lifesaving Society is the governing body for Lifesaving Sport in Canada and the Full member of ILS. As the official Canadian representative on the Royal Life Saving Society and International Lifesaving Federation, the Lifesaving Society is uniquely qualified to coordinate these Championships.

“We are thrilled that the Commonwealth has recognised Canada’s increasing role in the Lifesaving Sport community by awarding us these Championships, states Rick Haga, National Executive Director of the Lifesaving Society.
