New Knights – Dame in the Order of Lifesaving

The following persons have been conferred awards in the Order of Lifesaving:

B. Chris Brewster (USA)

B. Chris Brewster is a Bachelor of Science (1980) from the University of Colorado, Emergency Medical Technician (since 1980). He was Lifeguard Chief in the City of San Diego Lifeguard Service and Harbormaster of Mission Bay. He was responsible for a team of approximately 230 employees. The agency’s responsibilities include water rescue of swimmers, marine firefighting, law enforcement via citation and arrest, coastal cliff rescue, swift water rescue (flood rescue), ocean rescue of boaters up to three miles offshore, staffing of a 24-hour dispatch center with full 911 capabilities, and public safety education programmes.

Chris is Member of the ILS Board of Director since 1995, Vice-President of ILS and President for the Americas since 1995 and Commissioner of the Lifesaving Commission since 2004. He is author of many books and articles on lifesaving and water rescue.

Joan Duncan (Canada)

Joan Duncan has a long history with CGC, having served at various times since 1985 as a sport representative, a member-at-large, vice president, CGC President and Past President.

Joan is a management consultant and president of JDI Consulting, a professional management consulting firm specialising in strategic planning, organisational change and human resource management. Prior to establishing the firm in 1988, she was executive director of the Canadian Rhythmic Sportive Gymnastics Federation and Director of Aquatics for the City of Ottawa.

In addition to her 20-year involvement with CGC, Joan has volunteered with many community and sport organisations both domestic and international. She is a Director and Vice President (Americas Region) of the International Lifesaving Federation (1996 to present), lectures for the IOC Executive Masters in Sport Organisation Management (MEMOS) programme. Within sport Joan is most proud of her involvement in International Development through Sport.

Joan is a long time member of Lifesaving Society Canada. She became member of the ILS Board of Directors since 1996 and took over numerous functions in ILS Commissions and Committees.

Robert Bradley (Australia ” Royal)

Robert Bradley is a Bachelor in Arts (Sports Administration – 1987) and a Master of Business Administration (1996). He is the Chief Executive Officer of Royal Life Saving Society Australia since 1996. Prior to this, he was the National Youth Development Manager (1988-1993) and National Development Manager (1993-1996) of the Australian Rugby Union.

He is involved in lifesaving since 1980 when he obtained the RLSS Bronze Medallion. He was lifesaving instructor from 1983 to 1986. He became member of the ILS Board of Directors in 1996, Chair of the ILS Development Committee (1996-1998), Chair of the Finance and Marketing Committee (1999-2004) and Vice-President of ILS and President for the Asia-Pacific Region since 2000.
