ILS Governor passed away

It is with great sadness to inform you that Dr. Henry Fok Ying-Tung, Patron of the Hong Kong Life Saving Society and Governor of ILS passed away on 28 October 2006 at the age of 83.

Born in 1923 in Panyu, Guangdong Province, Henry Fok rose from humble roots to become one of the city’s wealthiest and most powerful men.

The Hong Kong business tycoon served three terms as vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, the country’s top advisory body. He was also honorary president of the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong.

Dr. Fok has worked with singular devotion on the opening up of China’s economy as well as for the prosperity and stability of Hong Kong.

This year, Forbes magazine ranked him the 181st wealthiest man in the world, with an estimated net worth of US$3.7 billion. His business empire includes property, ports, and casinos in Macau.

Dr. Henry Fok has been a member of Royal Life Saving Society ” Hong Kong Branch (RLSS-HKB) and the HKLSS over 36 years. He has served in various capacities as the Chairman of Examiners Panel, Annual Governor and Vice Patron of the RLSS-HKB and HKLSS respectively. He became Patron of International Life Saving in 2003.

He helped the HKLSS in organizing the Asia Pacific Life Saving Conference and Championships. He also promotes the interest of the Life Saving Examiners by arranging for all Examiners to visit Macau for vacation annually. His death is a great loss to the Society.
