Significant change in Brazilian drowning statistics

The Brazilian Life Saving Society (SOBRASA) reports that statistics on Brazilian drowning shows a significant reduction after joining ILS in 1995.

While there was an 8.3% mortality reduction from 1987 to 1995, there was a 23% reduction from 1995 to 2003.

Many factors are related to these results. Although there is no way to demonstrate how much the knowledge exchange and prevention programmes conducted by the ILS and SOBRASA during these years (1995 to 2003) were responsible for these positive results, SOBRASA considers the communication and exchange of information related to its membership in the ILS to be a landmark on drowning in Brazil and believes a continuation of the relationship will have increasingly positive effects in the future.
