The Visible Behaviour of Drowning Persons

During the World Congress on Drowning Prevention in Durban in 2019, an invitation-only workshop was organized to study the behavior of persons who were in the process of drowning.

Twenty international experts in the filed of water safety analyzed 23 video that showed the behavior.

The major conclusions of the study have been:

  1. There is a large variety of drowning patterns.
  2. All victims resurfaces for the last time within 2 minutes after the drowning process has started.
  3. There was no shouting or screaming.
