World Drowning Prevention Day 25th July 2022

Today marks the day 6 months before the 2nd Annual World Drowning Prevention Day (WDPD) on 25th July 2022.  The ILS is pleased to announce a special event to enable all its members to celebrate this UN-Declared day of action to promote the work that is done around the world to reduce drowning.

Throughout this day the ILS will hold a series of 4 webinars, one in each ILS Region.  The Webinars will focus on a common theme but allow each Region the opportunity to showcase in their own way what their members are doing in the fight against global drowning and learn from regionally selected experts on the latest progress in tackling the burden of drowning.

Webinar Sessions:

Each Webinar will last for up to 3 hours at the times given below. Each Region will choose its own key-note speakers and there will be an opportunity for every ILS member within the Region to have some time to make a short presentation about what they are doing to prevent drowning in their country.

Timing:

The 4 Regions have different numbers of time zones, and with the Asia Pacific Region covering 12 hours from Fiji to Lebanon there is a logistical challenge.  However, it has been possible to schedule the 4 Webinars separately at local times that are reasonable.

The Webinars will be open to any person who wants to join each session wherever they are in the world. If somebody has the will, they can participate in all four sessions.  They will also be open for non-ILS members and organisations to participate if they wish.

The four sessions will be held with a one-hour break between to allow the ILS HQ Hosting Team to reset and take a break.  The 2nd Annual WDPD will therefore be celebrated over a 15-hour period on 25th July 2022 from 05:00 to 20:00 CET.

Hosting:

The Webinars will be hosted via Zoom at the ILS HQ by the ILS HQ staff and Secretary General, with the ILS President joining online from Australia.

There will shortly be a meeting with the ILS HQ Team, the Regional Presidents and Chair of the ILS Drowning Prevention Commission, Justin Scarr, to discuss and decide on the common theme that will be used throughout the day.

The ILS HQ team will work with each Region to support them in the planning and delivery of each session.  If any ILS Member is interested in participating in these sessions, please contact your Regional President or Secretary General in the first instance
