Important announcement about the Lifesaving World Championships 2022

The ILS Event Management Committee has recently undertaken some extensive contingency planning to assess how it can conduct the Lifesaving World Championships (LWC) 2022 in Riccione, Italy in September 2022 in the face of continuing uncertainty and ongoing Covid-19 restrictions that are likely to be in place.

Unfortunately it has concluded that not all of elements of LWC 2022 can be conducted safely and regrettably has had to cancel some of the events that were due to take place next year.  This will be a big disappointment to many members who were intending to come to Italy to participate.

The National Teams Open and Youth Championships, and Masters Championships will still go ahead, but all other Interclub, Surfboat and IRB Championships have had to be cancelled.  The full details of the announcement made to all ILS Member Organisations today is provided in the links below, including a comprehensive Question and Answer information brief to explain the issues in more detail.

  1. Hi John and team,
Such a hard decision it must have taken a lot of time to consider all options.

Hopefully 2024 will go ahead I would like to have one more .

    • Hi Terry

Yes it was a difficult decision to have to make. However, not all the LWC 2022 events have been cancelled – there are still 3 World Championships running! All will be restored for LWC 2024.
